Elderly Waiver (EW) is a federal program for people 65 or older with limited assets and income. It can cover the cost of care provided in a group home setting such as Assisted Living or Residential Care Home.
The primary goal of EW is to enable more independence for senior adults who need care, in order to delay or altogether prevent having to go to a Nursing Home. It pays for nursing care and help with activities of daily living not covered by Medical Assistance (MA) or private long-term care insurance.
Up-to-date information on eligibility and the full list of services covered by EW are provided by the Minnesota DHS here.
To apply, call the Senior LinkAge Line at 1-800-333-2433 (weekdays 8:00 am to 4:30 pm).
